Jersey Classic Axe is a full-sized feeling axe thats excellent for general axe chores. Forged tool steel head features a hand sharpened tapered bit for cutting and splitting Phantom bevels or hallows are designed to reduce sticking and burst wood chips Axe head has a natural steel finish and cutting edge is coated in clear lacquer to deter rust Head is hydraulically sealed onto the 36 curved American hickory handle and secured with a serrated aluminum wedge Serrated aluminum wedge has an improved bite is strong and lightweight and does not change size with moisture content Lugs or ears increase the heads surface contact area with the handle to further enhance durability Eye section of the handle is dried to below 10% moisture content to minimize shrinkage and help prevent loosening Interior detail of the eye is tapered and allows for a strong mechanical bond NOTE: ANSI standards call for bit hardness of Rc 45-60 at least 1/2 back from the cutting edge. Council Tool internal standards call for tempered bit hardness of Rc 48-55 and they target 1-1/4 from the cutting edge. The poll and eye walls are not hardened and remain in the as-forged condition.
